Geo Lodges Shoebill Camp is a simple, affordable campsite on a bank above the Victoria Nile in the park’s southern sector, close to the entrance road. It is a genuine campsite rather than a lodge – you bring your own tent or hire one on site – but the position is lovely, right over the river, and it puts you within easy reach of the top of the falls and Budongo Forest. For travellers on a tight budget who do not mind camping, it is a peaceful and scenic base.
Where it is
In the southern sector near the park entrance, well placed for the top-of-the-falls trailhead and for an early start to Budongo Forest for chimpanzee tracking. The Paraa ferry, and the crossing to the northern game-drive tracks, is roughly 45 minutes to an hour away, so this camp suits a falls-and-forest itinerary more than a game-drive-heavy one.
The setting
The campsite is on a grassy bank above the Nile among riverine trees, quiet and scenic, with hippo audible at night and good birding along the water – the shoebill the camp is named for is a Budongo and delta special rather than a certainty here. Facilities are basic and the atmosphere is peaceful.

Pitch space for your own tent, or simple pitched tents for hire with mattresses and bedding. Shared long-drop or basic flush toilets and bucket or solar showers. Bring a head torch. Mosquito nets are provided with hired tents.

Basic shared ablutions, a simple covered cooking and dining shelter, and a fire pit. Meals are limited or self-catered – we usually send a cook and supplies for guests staying here, or arrange packed meals. There is no reliable power or Wi-Fi. Shoebill Camp suits budget travellers and campers on a falls-and-forest itinerary who want a scenic, quiet riverside pitch and do not need catering or comfort. It is not the choice for game-drive-focused trips – the ferry is too far – or for anyone who wants a bed in a room.
