Paraa Safari Lodge

Heritage Safari Lodge is a well-known name on the northern bank, one of the earlier lodges to open in that part of the park and still a dependable mid-range choice. It sits near Tangi Gate, inside the northern game-drive sector, with self-contained thatched cottages, a central restaurant and bar, and a pool. The lodge is used to independent and self-drive travellers and can arrange an open safari vehicle with a guide, which makes it a practical base for a flexible, game-focused trip.

Where it is

Near Tangi Gate in the northern sector, among the Buligi and Albert game-drive tracks and close to the Pakuba airstrip. Morning game drives start at the door with no ferry crossing. The Paraa jetty for the launch cruise is a 30-to-40-minute drive south, and the top of the falls is a ferry crossing beyond that.

The setting

The lodge is set in savanna woodland typical of the northern sector, with the cottages spread out and wildlife regularly passing through. There is a pool and a large thatched central building. The feel is practical and welcoming rather than boutique – a working safari lodge in a good spot.

Rooms

Self-contained thatched cottages, each en-suite with a mosquito net, hot water, a fan and a veranda. The rooms are comfortable and traditional. Family options are available. Power is solar with generator backup.

Facilities and food

A swimming pool, a restaurant and bar serving buffet or set meals with dietary options, a lounge, and slow Wi-Fi in the main area. Open safari vehicles with a driver-guide can be hired, which is unusual and useful for self-drive guests. Breakfast and lunch boxes are packed for early drives. The lodge arranges game drives, the launch cruise, the falls hike, birding and fishing.

Who it suits

Heritage suits game-focused travellers on a mid-range budget who want to be inside the northern sector, and self-drive guests who may want to hire an open vehicle and guide. Families do well here. Guests wanting a riverside room or a design-led camp should choose elsewhere.

What it costs, as a guide

Mid-range lodges here typically run from around US$110 to US$210 per person per night sharing a double, full board – the riverfront cottages and the better-known names toward the top of that band, the simpler cottage lodges toward the bottom. Park entry fees, your vehicle and guide, and the activities are all separate – a full safari quote from us wraps everything into one figure. Rates move with the season and the room type and change from year to year, so the prices here are indicative and for planning only; we always confirm the exact current rate for your dates directly with the property before you commit to anything.

How it fits your safari

Heritage Safari Lodge is near Tangi Gate inside the northern sector, so like Pakuba it puts you on the game-drive tracks at first light without a ferry crossing. It suits self-drive travellers in particular, as the lodge can supply an open safari vehicle and a guide, and it works well on any game-focused mid-range itinerary.

Good to know

Rates, room types and exact facilities change from season to season, so we confirm the current price and availability for your dates directly with the property before you commit to anything – there is no charge for this and no obligation. Power at most Murchison lodges is a mix of mains, solar and generator and may switch off overnight, so a head torch and a power bank are worth carrying; Wi-Fi, where it exists, is slow and best treated as a way to send a message home. Meals are usually full board, and any lodge will pack a breakfast or lunch box for an early game drive if we let the kitchen know. A yellow-fever certificate is required to enter Uganda and malaria prophylaxis is recommended for the whole country.
