Tangi Safari Lodge is a modest, friendly lodge just outside Tangi Gate on the northern edge of the park. It makes no claim to luxury – the rooms are simple and en-suite, the food is honest and the setting is quiet bush – but its position is genuinely useful: you are minutes from the gate and the start of the northern game-drive circuit, which means you can be out on the tracks at first light with almost no transfer. It also works well as a stop on a route that comes in or out of the park to the north.
Where it is
Just outside Tangi Gate, on the northern approach via Purongo and Gulu. The northern game-drive tracks begin a short drive through the gate, so first-light drives are straightforward. The Paraa jetty for the launch cruise is a 30-to-40-minute drive south.
The setting
The lodge is set in quiet woodland near the gate, simple and unhurried, with a small central dining area and bar and rooms nearby. Birdlife is good around the grounds. It is a functional base rather than a place to spend the day.
Rooms
Modest en-suite rooms and cottages, each with a mosquito net, hot water, a fan and a small veranda. Furnishings are basic but clean and comfortable. Power is solar with generator support.
Facilities and food
A restaurant and bar serving simple set meals with dietary options, a lounge, and limited Wi-Fi. Breakfast and lunch boxes are provided for early drives. The lodge arranges game drives, the launch cruise, the falls hike and birding, and can arrange a community visit in Purongo.
Who it suits
Tangi Safari Lodge suits travellers who want the cheapest practical way to be near the northern game tracks for a dawn start, and anyone routing in or out via Gulu who needs a simple first or last night. Guests wanting comfort, a pool or a view should choose another lodge.
What it costs, as a guide
Mid-range lodges here typically run from around US$110 to US$210 per person per night sharing a double, full board – the riverfront cottages and the better-known names toward the top of that band, the simpler cottage lodges toward the bottom. Park entry fees, your vehicle and guide, and the activities are all separate – a full safari quote from us wraps everything into one figure. Rates move with the season and the room type and change from year to year, so the prices here are indicative and for planning only; we always confirm the exact current rate for your dates directly with the property before you commit to anything.
How it fits your safari
Tangi Safari Lodge is right by Tangi Gate on the northern side, which makes it purely practical: it is one of the closest beds to the northern game-drive tracks and a natural first or last night for a route via Gulu. We use it when an early start and a short transfer to the wildlife matter more than the lodge itself.
Good to know
Rates, room types and exact facilities change from season to season, so we confirm the current price and availability for your dates directly with the property before you commit to anything – there is no charge for this and no obligation. Power at most Murchison lodges is a mix of mains, solar and generator and may switch off overnight, so a head torch and a power bank are worth carrying; Wi-Fi, where it exists, is slow and best treated as a way to send a message home. Meals are usually full board, and any lodge will pack a breakfast or lunch box for an early game drive if we let the kitchen know. A yellow-fever certificate is required to enter Uganda and malaria prophylaxis is recommended for the whole country.
